This shaman’s medicine bag features a badger face and front claws. It also has a racoon penis bone, a giant African porcupine quill, deer antler, a large quartz crystal, an abalone shell button, and fancy twisted deerskin fringes on the bottom of the bag, tipped with brass cones. It also has cobalt blue crow beads and brass beads on some of the fringes.
The shoulder strap is braided in a flat braid. The model wearing the bag is quite short, around 5 ft 1 inches. This shoulder bag would hang higher up on a taller person, or wear it as a crossbody bag. The braided strap is about 42″ long, so it should fit both men or women, or heavy set people. If you want a shorter shoulder strap, you could tie a knot at the top to adjust the length.
The purse compartment is about 11″ long by 6″ wide at the top, tapering to 8″ at the bottom of the purse. The fringes on the bottom of the bag are an additional 11″ long.

Great medicine bag! My intent was to use this temporarily, since I gave my previous medicine bag to a terminally ill friend. Normally I spend about a month crafting a new one, since I wear mine 24/7 and expose it to harsh elements and weekly inipi ceremonies. After receiving it, I ditched the leather cord and replaced it with braided sinew, since the cord would have certainly broken. I ended up keeping it and not making my own, as I’ve grown quite fond of it! High quality leatherwork with durable stitching, and the leather itself has lasted through a few dozen inipis (high heat and moisture) and a sun dance. If you’re looking for a medicine bag, buy one! That’s high praise from me, given that I’ve never kept a bag that I haven’t made myself, since they either deteriorate or fall apart.
