This breastplate is hand crafted from genuine buffalo bone beads, silver beads, and orange and black crow beads.

It is strung on sturdy cowhide strips and has black deerskin fringes decorated with black crow beads, silver beads and silver cones along each side, with orange and black crow beads and silver beads in the body of the breast plate. There are two bundles of horse hair on the top of each row of fringes, and four more bundles on the center rows on the bottom of the breastplate. In the center of the chest area, there is a bone feather medallion with two deerskin fringes decorated with black and silver beads, silver cones, and coque feathers.

This Youth sized buffalo bone breastplate is about 24″ (50.8cm) long x 12″ (25.4cm) wide, inclding the black deerskin fringes and the horse hair bundles.

Breastplates were worn by Plains tribes as ornamentation, and for protection in battle. They continue to be an important part of many pow wow dancer’s regalia today.
