Description

This unique feather shaped dream catcher is a one-of-a-kind item made by a member of the Blackfoot tribe in Alberta, Canada. It is wrapped in deerskin leather and the web is made from sinew. There are no beads in the web.

The feathers are faux great horned owl and are attached with glass crow trade beads and brass cones. The dreamcatcher is approximately 1 3/4 inches wide by 6 inches long. The dream catcher originally came from the Ojibwe tribe, however in modern times, dreamcatchers are made by members of many tribes, and even by non-tribal artists.

According to the legend, hanging a dream catcher near a sleeping person causes the bad dreams to be caught in the web, while the good dreams enter through the hole in the middle and drift down the feathers to the sleeping person. Then in the morning, sunlight enters through the hole in the center to melt the bad dreams away.

The beads in a dream catcher represent bad dreams that have been caught. A dreamcatcher can be made more powerful by adding personal totems that have significance to the owner of the dream catcher, such as fur, feathers, stones, beads, claws or bits of horn from the owner’s totem animals, or momentos found on a journey taken by the dreamcatcher’s owner, etc.
